Dorothy ("Darcy") Andrews began photography as an adult. Having mastered photography rapidly, she is an educator at the New England School of Photography. Darcy also works as an actuary for a Big Five accounting firm and as an adjunct Professor in Boston University’s Actuarial Science Program. Her mathematical acumen is apparent in the technical accuracy of her work, while at the same time her work is reflective of her more creative and artistic self.

Darcy’s keen eye for composition is strongly influenced by her love of music. After a long absence from studying the violin, she returned to it about a year ago as an adult and progressed rapidly. This was about the time Darcy happened upon a path of self-discovery. One thing she wanted to discover about herself was her capacity for learning things she might not have dreamt about years earlier. She played the violin for about six years as a child but did not have a memory of how proficient she had become. So, returning to play as an adult was like starting anew. Her fellow students were grade school-ers, who, in the beginning, could clearly out play her. She was the only adult in the many recitals she performed, but perform she did. In her debut recital she played, "Jingle Bells," composed by some unknown. A year later, she was playing Bach Minuets and Bourrée’s by Handel. Learning to play the violin has taught Darcy not to be afraid to try new things, because now she believes practice really does make perfect, or, at least, gets you pretty close. Her passion for the violin is ever apparent in her photography.
